HUNAWIHR - The church in the heart of the vineyards
Hunawihr
Description
A winegrowing community on the Wine Route, at an altitude of 260 m, Hunawihr now has 504 inhabitants and has earned 'Most Beautiful Villages in France' and 'Green Holiday Resort' status. A mere 2 km from Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr. A post office-cum-general store has recently opened. There are several restaurants, as well as bed-and-breakfast rooms and furnished flats.
Many winegrowers, as well as the wine cooperative, offer visits to their cellars and tastings.
The local Grand Cru, Rosacker, is included in the Grands Crus wine trail.
This charming flowered village is an ideal starting-point for visiting neighbouring tourist sites, and also offers a history trail.
Do not miss: The church and its fortified cemetery (with Historical Monument status), the Schickardt House, the Renaissance Town Hall, The Fountain of St. Hune, the Stork and Otter Reintroduction Centre and the Butterfly Garden.
