If you're into steep climbs, this is the route for you! After a brief passage through the vineyards, this route takes you to Thannenkirch and then on to the Taennchel massif with its many legends. The highlight of the route is the Saint Ulrich and Girsberg castles.

Girsberg Castle: built around 1250 opposite St. Ulrich Castle to reinforce its defense. In the early 14th century, it became the property of a noble family, the Girsbergs, who gave it its name. The remains that can still be seen today include the pentagonal keep with a square interior (13th century) and the adjoining dwelling.

Château Saint-Ulrich: The most imposing and best-preserved of the three castles. It was built around the middle of the 13th century on a rocky spur. St-Ulrich, the Ribeaupierre family residence until the end of the century, has little military character. The remains that can still be admired today include the square keep and main building (12th century), the knights' hall and large residential tower (13th century), the entrance barbican and outer wall (14th century) and the St-Ulrich chapel (15th century).
