The route is mostly flat, making it easy to ride across the Alsace plain. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It took me about <\/span><b>2 hours and 30 minutes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, but that time obviously doesn\u2019t include my many photo stops or my visit to Neuf-Brisach. If you really want to enjoy the route, I recommend setting aside a good half-day\u2014or even longer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What I really liked was the variety of the route. Its fortifications are among the twelve major sites of the Vauban network that have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What&#8217;s quite unusual here is that when you arrive in the city center, you don&#8217;t necessarily notice right away how crazy the overall shape of the complex is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You have to go up to the ramparts, get a little higher up, or look at an aerial view to understand this star-shaped layout and the entire defensive system designed around the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the center is the large <\/span><b>Place d\u2019Armes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, followed by very geometric streets that branch off in different directions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But for me, the most interesting part is really the area outside the city: the gates, the moats, and especially the various lines of fortifications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And to help me understand all of this, I got to go on a rather unusual tour!<\/span><\/p><\/div>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;5890&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row equal_height=&#8221;yes&#8221;
